Box Breath on the Bus
Four sides, four counts each. Small enough to do on the top deck of a bus without anybody noticing.
If you feel light-headed or uncomfortable, stop and breathe normally.
How it works
Find something square in front of you — a bus window, a door, a phone screen, a paving slab. You’ll trace the four sides with your eyes while you breathe. Nobody will know you’re doing it.
Steps
- Look at the top-left corner of your square.
- Trace along the top edge while you breathe in for four.
- Trace down the right side while you hold gently for four.
- Trace along the bottom while you breathe out for four.
- Trace up the left side while you rest for four before the next breath.
- Go round the box four times. Then look out of the window and notice one colour.
A gentle note: If holding your breath doesn’t feel right, skip the holds. Just breathe in along the top and out along the bottom.
Boundaries are not cruelty. They’re how kindness lasts.
